Spy Facts: The Colour of the Wedding Dress

The Wedding Dress

Married in White, you have chosen right.

Married in Blue, your lover is true.

Married in Pink, your fortunes will sink.

Married in Green, you will not long be seen.

Married in Red, you'll wish you were dead.

Married in Yellow, ashamed of the fellow.

Married in Brown, you'll live out of town.

Married in Grey, you'll live far away.

Married in Black, you'll wish you were back.

Wearing white to be wed was only popularised as recently as the Victorian era, as beforehand, brides could get married in any colour dress they wished. This explains the significance of this traditional British rhyme.

It's all in a bit of fun though, because any Asian bride will probably tell you that in Asian culture, it is considered lucky to be married in red!

Are there any any wedding dress traditions or rhymes you know of?
