Wedding Care Packages for Overseas Guests

I was looking at some photos a friend had recently posted on Facebook of another's friend's wedding which she had attended. Of all of the beautiful details of the wedding, the one that really caught my attention was something that is often over looked but actually a very special touch designed to make their out-of-town guests feel extra welcome: a care package.

Such a thoughtful little touch right? Imagine having travelled for hours to attend someone's wedding in another town or country, how lovely it would be to have a little package waiting there for you filled with treats and a special note from the couple. I think it is something that almost everyone can put together fairly easily, especially if you just have a small handful of guests coming in.

Welcome packages for your guests don't need to be particularly elaborate but you could have loads of fun working in elements of your theme, for instance, if you're having a beach wedding, it would be nice to include some sunscreen or a pair of flip flops.

Alternatively it would just as elegant to use your wedding colors as the theme for your welcome package. And the items you include don't have to be particularly extravagant either. Some awesome things you could include are:
  • Homemade cookies or local sweets
  • Bottle of water
  • A bottle of wine
  • Chocolates
  • Mints
  • Fresh Fruits
  • Bubble bath or salts

Most importantly though, don't forget to include a special thank you note from you to your guests for taking the effort (and expense!) to travel all the way for your wedding, showing you that your wedding was something that they thought they just couldn't miss. Be sure to let them know how much you appreciated their love and support.

Another great idea would be to include some information for them such as:
  • the wedding itinerary and timings
  • great places to eat near their hotel
  • the timings for any shows at the museum or theaters
  • directions to the shops
  • a contact number of someone they can call if they need any help, maybe of your wedding coordinator, travel coordinator or friend who's helping out with the wedding

If you're putting together a small package, you can try to coordinate with the hotel staff about putting the package in the pre-booked room that your guest will be staying in or at the check-in desk. Or if it's a larger gift, get a friend to do a delivery shortly after your guests would have checked in. It would really make for a lovely surprise and your guests will love the thoughtful gesture.

Happy packaging!
